Did you know that you can covert the MSI U100 into a portable that runs the Mac OSX?
Take a look around on google and look for “MSI U100 Hackintosh” or “MSI U100 OSX86”. There are several very informal guides on how to install this OS. You will have to search around for a couple of drivers and you will need a copy of OSX Leopard.
I have personally seen and used the white MSI Wind U100 model with Mac OSX 10.5.4 installed and it looks and functions amazingly !!
If you are a Mac person or just thinking of getting a Mac, here is an excellent alternative for around 400 bucks. Now I would recommend installing and upgrading the ram as well at the battery. There are currently some 9-cell batteries available that will give you 6 hours of run time using the Mac OS.
***UPDATE
A buddy of mine has the white wind u100 so we decided to try and install the Mac OS on it. After doing a little research and checking out some forums and videos we installed it without a hitch. Let me say this thing ran great. I was really surprised how smooth and fast the mac os ran on it. We then installed Office 08 for mac and again ran as good as my desktop.
Final thoughts. If your looking for a inexpensive mac book this is definately the way to so. The install took about 25 min and was very self explanatory.
This is not your ordinary Notebook.
The X340 was designed to be rugged yet elegant and light as a feather.
It’s most unique feature is its size, its only 0.24″ at its thinnest point, and just 0.79″ at its thickest. It weighs in at 2.7 lbs with the battery installed, thus making it currently the worlds lightest and thinnest 13″ notebook!
The First 13” Notebook Equipped with 16:9 Widescreen Display
The X340 comes standard with a 13” HD-Ready LCD display to provide the best playback when watching the latest movies, playing games, or just reading documents. The 16:9 theater ratio provides an additional 14% visual area. Best of all when watching a widescreen DVD you will not see any blank space on the top or the bottom of the screen!
Nothing Left Out !
The X340 has a complete set of ports that includes a 2-in-1 card reader (supports SD/SDHC/MMC) and various mainstream memory sticks, making it simple to transfer all or your data to your notebook. Plug in your digital video camera, photo camera, MP3 player or an external hard drives through the available USB 2.0 ports. An external DVD Burner is also available* so you can play DVD movies or burn important documents
Got yourself one of those new Netbooks? Now you need a way to install your applications and software? You might want to think about picking up a USB CD drive. I would concider getting a USB burner as you will get a little more bang for your buck. You might as well be able to burn a CD or DVD. Take alook at the USB drives I found on the Amazon Store.

The Wind comes in several different variations.Basically you have to choose between your operating system ( Windows XP or Linux ), the memory configuration (512MB or 1GB) and the battery size (3 Cell or 6 Cell). For the difference in the cost it is a much better bargain and powerful machine to have it configured with 1GB of Ram and the 6 Cell Battery. The 3 Cell battery will give you about 2 hours of run time, where the 6 Cell will give you a solid 4 hours.
The unit I tested was the MSI Wind U100 432-US Mini Laptop. This system was configured with Windows XP, 1GB of Ram, 160GB hard drive and a 6 cell battery. The first thing I noticed was how light the unit was.Next was the screen. The screen is very bright and clear making it easy on the eyes. Its standard with a 10 inch backlight screen with a resolution of 1024 X 600 allowing you to view the entire width of a webpage. The Wind designed and arranged there keyboard perfectly! The keyboard covers just about the entire base of the laptop making it easy for any user to operate.
Here’s a list of the other ports and standard features:
Wifi – 802.11b/g Bluetooth 2.0 USB VGA Output Ethernet Audio Jacks 4 in 1 Card Reader for SD/MMC/MS/MSpro Memory Sticks. 1.3 Mega Pixel Webcam Microphone Built in Speakers
The Bottom line is this is an excellent laptop!Start up times are the same as any laptop or desktop. Programs like Microsoft office performed just as well on here as my duo core desktop.
