A video about whether its actually worth going to the trouble of trying to run os x on a netbook when your not really going to be able to use it to its full potential on a low powered machine. Wouldn’t windows xp or ubuntu suffice? Or even windows 7?

apple do make a netbook, apple refer to the macbook air as their netbook or notebook!

If i can get OS X, and have iMove run smooth, it’s worth it. If i can’t get iMovie running, just safari.. then no, not worth it.

It is if you put another 1gb of ram then it is the same as a macbook except the hard drive is bigger and not solid state and they are 1.6GHz intel core not 1.86GHz intel core duo

I think the iPhone should just be considered Apple’s netbook.

Currently running leopard on my eee 901 GO, purely for the reason i need a unix system for programming type tasks etc, and i had serious problems with sleep, and unsupported hardware in ubuntu/eeebuntu

installing isn’t too hard, but does require quite a bit of knowledge, for things like hardware drivers, and getting hyper-threading working

overall performance is shockingly good, geekbench score roughly the same as other Oses, boot time faster than ubuntu

bit heavy for the system, but it works

Some rally excellent points and I agree with you in asking the question, “is it worth the extra effort?” Fantastic video Dave.

With the internal changes of Snow Leopard, I think a Mac netbook is an extreme possibility.

I don’t really see the point in net books. I would much rather get a new alu macbook if i wanted something to take everywhere. Its small and easy to take on the go, but it also has a decent sized screen. Have you seen some of these puny net book screens? They should bundle them with magnifying glasses. Anyways… I’m not excited to see any netbook from apple, but very excited to see snow leopard.

there is no need for apple to bring out a netbook, what is going to be the difference between a pc and a OSX. for one your not going to have the power to run any of the apple programs, the only thing you will use is itunes and safari and they are both available on pc

Call me a traditionalist; but what is the bloody point in these Netbooks? They’re toys; more throw-away consumer bullshit as far as I’m concerned with less options than a Welsh fish & chip shop.

If it’s size you’re worried about, then why not go for a 13″ laptop that’s actually competent to the task?
