The Wind comes in several different variations. Basically you have to choose between your operating system ( Windows XP or Linux ), the memory configuration (512MB or 1GB) and the battery size (3 Cell or 6 Cell). For the difference in the cost it is a much better bargain and powerful machine to have it configured with 1GB of Ram and the 6 Cell Battery. The 3 Cell battery will give you about 2 hours of run time, where the 6 Cell will give you a solid 4 hours.
The unit I tested was the MSI Wind U100 432-US Mini Laptop. This system was configured with Windows XP, 1GB of Ram, 160GB hard drive and a 6 cell battery. The first thing I noticed was how light the unit was. Next was the screen. The screen is very bright and clear making it easy on the eyes. Its standard with a 10 inch backlight screen with a resolution of 1024 X 600 allowing you to view the entire width of a webpage. The Wind designed and arranged there keyboard perfectly! The keyboard covers just about the entire base of the laptop making it easy for any user to operate.

The Bottom line is this is an excellent laptop! Start up times are the same as any laptop or desktop. Programs like Microsoft office performed just as well on here as my duo core desktop.

These things look pretty nice. I have not really heard of MSI before, just wondering how they would stack up to HP or Dell? Any info would be appreciated

Andrew – Just by using and holding this thing it has quality written all over it. I personally know 2 differnt people now that own and use the U100 on a daily basis and neither have had any complaints.
I have had one since begining of November last year(2008), ran all kind of applications,incuiding graphics and streaming video…it works fantastic….I haven’t had any problems whatsoever….
so you think it is possible to play online games on it?
You can play games on them, However it is not a high in gaming machine. I do have a friend that plays World of Warcraft on it. He does not have all the graphic details turned on but it looks great. I don’t think it would be good at all for a fast pace 3d first person shooter. If you are a big time gamer then I would look into a full size laptop with an upgradeable video card. Hope this helps some.
Sounds like a capable notebook. Question about upgrading the memory: is there 1 or 2 slots for the memory? In other words to upgrade to 2 Gb, do we need to discard the installed 1Gb and swap it for a 2Gb?

This notebook has 1 memory slot. I just recently upgraded my buddies, so if you want to take it to 2GB which is what we did you have to buy 1 – 2gb sodimm. Do you currently own one of these notebooks?

A great little computer. Has a “solid” feel, everything that I need for business travel, and is extremely easy to pack in a carry-on. Strong screen hinge, sharp little display. Easily handles Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, powerpoint, etc). Amazing value for the $325 price tag.
