Another video of appledifferent.com trying to push OS X netbooks’ limits ! This time Jay Pan sees how Mac games run on such hardware and finds out Tomb Raider Anniversary run quite well on Atom N270 ! Not bad at all considering the fact TRA is a 2007 game and MSI Wind uses Intel GMA 950. Prey, Colin mcrae Rally, World of Goo, Lego Star Wars II and Marble Blast were also tested.

Let’s see how videos run on such hardware. First and Foremost, Flash integration on Mac is shit. You will quickly find out “optimisation” is Adobe’s trademark…. Other HD movies like trailers you can find on Apple site run smoothly and without problem. In fact Atom + GMA950 manage 1080p videos, which is quite surprising since nobody told he found this out before. Moreover I used Quicktime, which is not the better application out there.

A video about whether its actually worth going to the trouble of trying to run os x on a netbook when your not really going to be able to use it to its full potential on a low powered machine. Wouldn’t windows xp or ubuntu suffice? Or even windows 7?

garageband 08 running on MSI Wind netbook. Atom N270 @1.6Ghz 2Gb Ram 80Gb WD Scorpio HDD Leopard 10.5.4 Software instruments work well. You can record one with up to 6 tracks running at the same time. I figured out garageband on such hardware is a modern 4-tracks audio recorder. Back to the roots ! It could be even better if Apple optimized OS X and ilife for an Apple netbook… In the end, garageband was recording grand piano ( software instrument ) with 6 other tracks — Aurora Bell + Big electric Lead Guitar as software instruments, 4 more tracks made of Apple Loops provided with the application. That’s not bad at all !
